In less than 12 months, Independents for Canberra set out to do something that hadn’t been achieved in over two decades: elect an independent to the ACT Parliament.
As a newly formed movement, it needed to quickly establish credibility, communicate clearly with voters, and build enough local support to compete with established major parties.
An important part of the campaign was creating a clear and accessible online presence. The website we worked with their team to create acted as a practical hub where voters could read about policy positions, find their local candidate, see upcoming events, and sign up to get involved.
The focus was on making it easier for supporters to participate. People could quickly identify the candidate running in their electorate, learn more about them, and join activities relevant to their local area.
On election night, Independents for Canberra leader Thomas Emerson was elected to the ACT Parliament, the first independent to win in 23 years.
